Located in scenic northeastern New Mexico, outside of Watrous, New Mexico on
the East side of I-25.
Valmora School is a district satellite campus located at Rancho Valmora
residential center near Watrous. The students at Valmora all receive level D
special education services. Each student at Valmora has the Severely
Behaviorally/Emotionally Disturbed exceptionality and many have other
exceptionalities as well. The Valmora maximum enrollment is 63 residents--males
and females, ages 12 to 18. Classes at Valmora have a maximum of nine students.
Students come from all over the United States. Treatment stays as Rancho Valmora
are usually from 12 to 18 months. Academic abilities of the Valmora residents
range from lower elementary to college level. Class groups are single sex but
comprise all ages and academic abilities.
Educational goals and objectives for Valmora students are determined by each
student's Individualized Education Plan. the learning environment is highly
structured and closely supervised. The curriculum at Valmora reflects the
Students Focused Goals of the Wagon Mound EPSS. The primary focus of curriculum
and instruction is improved student achievement in READING, WRITING, and MATH.
Learning activates and curriculum at Valmora School are predominantly those
of the main campus, with certain limitations and adaptations imposed by the
treatment setting and by the diverse emotional and behavioral needs of the
residents. Student learning is individualized and self-paced and utilizes
materials, methods and modifications appropriate for each student's abilities,
learning style, and disabilities.
